Duhok, KURDISTAN (April 22nd2018) – Rwanga Foundation celebrated the Earth Day by inviting 40 children to the Zawita Park and do awareness activities in Duhok.

The aim of the activities was to raise awareness on environment protection and at the same time to make the children, as well as adults, understand the importance in keeping our planet clean and safe. By conducting special designed non formal educational activities, the children were actively involved in the process of ‘learning by playing’ to be aware of what might harm our environment and what to do to avoid the harm in order to assure the co-existence of human beings and nature.

The celebration of the Earth Day was part of the Rwanga Foundation's  #منیشپاکمکردەوە campaign (a 15 days campaign to keep the environment clean, started on April 16thon the Kurdistan Environment day, under a hashtag meaning ‘I also cleaned’).

On the 22nd of April 1970, millions of people were taking the streets to protest against the destructive environmental impacts of over 150 years industrial development. From that day on, Earth Day became an annual global event with more than 1 billion participants from over 192 countries, who are taking part in what is considered one of the largest civic-focused day of action in the world and is now coordinated by the earth day network.
