Commemorating the 240th Anniversary of Sulaimani's Establishment

In a momentous celebration of Sulaimani’s 240th anniversary, Rwanga Foundation, in collaboration with the Baban Family Syndicate, Golden Acorn Company, Rudaw Media Channel, Nishtiman Strategic Institute (NSI), and the Kurdistan Center for Arts and Culture (KCAC), hosted a cultural event honoring the city’s rich history and heritage.
The event was graced by the presence of prominent figures, including Dr. Haval Abubakr, Governor of Sulaimani; Hassan Sheikh Alaaddeen, Chief Executive Director of Rwanga Foundation; Dr. Sirwan Baban, Head of the Advisory Board at the Kurdistan Region Presidency Office; and members of the esteemed Baban family and their descendants.
The ceremony commenced with the Kurdistan national anthem, followed by a performance of traditional Kurdish music unique to Sulaimani, presented by the Rwanga Music Group. A highlight of the event was the screening of a documentary and short film, produced by Golden Acorn Company, showcasing the historical significance of the city.
A special panel discussion explored the Baban Emirate's profound influence on the region’s social fabric. Esteemed panelists included:
Rwanga Foundation also unveiled an initiative to preserve Kurdish history by sponsoring portraits of 29 Baban princes and pashas who ruled during different eras. These artworks will be displayed at the historic Sara Building in Sulaimani, offering visitors an opportunity to connect with the city's rich legacy.
The Rwanga Foundation reaffirms its commitment to preserving language and culture alongside its core focus on youth empowerment, education, environmental sustainability, and humanitarian efforts.
