Providing Clothes to the Orphans in the KRI.
KRI (May 4 and 5, 2021) – Rwanga Foundation held an activity to purchase Eid clothes and necessities under the name of ‘Children’s Joy’ for the children at the orphanages in Erbil, Sulaimani, and Duhok. The activity was followed by a one-day Iftar provided by Burger King with the children in Erbil’s Orphanage.
The aim of the project was to create a joyful environment for the orphans to make them feel like they are at home and help them stay connected to the community.
The total number of the beneficiaries were 135 children, adolescents, and young adults who live in the orphanages in an age range of 6 months to 18 years old and above. The number of the children in Erbil were 61 (22 female and 39 male). In Sulaimani 51 (16 female and 35 male) and 23 children in Duhok (17 female and 6 male).
The children were taken to the clothing stores on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 4 and 5, 2021), the children chose the clothes with their own desires while having a chance to enjoy shopping and have fun. The average number of purchased pieces were 6 pieces per child.
“These activities are important. If they stay inside the orphanages, they will be depressed. Taking them to buy clothes for themselves or to the public places is good for their mental health. In the meantime, such activities help them be self-dependent and boost their self-confidence for their future,” said Dilkhwaz Lashkr, supervisor of the Erbil male orphanage.
On the evening of May 5, 2021, Burger King provided an Iftar at the orphanage in Erbil to make the children happy and satisfied. The children spent a friendly and joyful evening with the staff members of Rwanga Foundation and Burger king from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
