As part of Rwanga Foundation's ongoing environmental initiatives to serve Kurdistan’s environment and address regional climate concerns, a portion of its forestry projects has now been completed. This initiative involved the plantation of 20,000 Spanish olive trees across 55 donums in the Dilopa-Kasnazan area.
The project commenced in 2024 with the objectives of increasing green coverage, improving regional climate conditions, and producing olives and olive oil. In the first phase, 11,000 trees were planted, followed by 9,000 trees in the second phase, totaling 20,000 Spanish olive trees.
Implemented in Erbil’s Dilopa-Kasnazan area, a key feature of this project is the use of Grouses Waterboxx technology, which enables trees to withstand drought and extreme heat conditions.
The projected benefits of planting 20,000 olive trees are outlined in the table below:
Product | Daily Production Rate |
---|---|
Oxygen Production | 5 million liters |
Olive Production | 400 tons |
Olive Oil Production | 120 tons |
In addition to its environmental impact, the project also provided employment opportunities for 255 young people, including individuals with special needs and women.
During the ceremony, a presentation on behalf of Rwanga Foundation was delivered by Hassan Sheikh Alauddin, Executive Director of the Foundation. A representative from the GIZ Agency also delivered remarks, followed by an address from Begard Talabani, Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources.
