10 December 2024

Kurdistan Region - Erbil - Safin Mountain

The Rwanga Foundation, under the leadership of its President and Founder (Mr Idris Nechirvan Barzani) hosted a remarkable mountaineering expedition in celebration of World Mountain Day. This event was held in coordination with the Kurdistan Mountaineering Federation and brought together over 300 mountaineers from across the Kurdistan to Safin Mountain.

The trek began at the peak of Safin Mountain and concluded at Jote Dar Camp in the Shaqlawa District. It served as a platform to advocate for environmental conservation, wildlife protection, and the greening of Kurdistan. As part of the initiative, participants planted thousands of Oak seeds and distributed specialized grains to support birds and wildlife in remote areas.

During the expedition, the mountain was seen as a symbol of strength and perseverance, while the planting of oak trees represented a shared love and dedication to the homeland and its natural beauty. At the Jote Dar Camp, (Mr Idris Nechirvan Barzani) raised the Kurdistan flag, creating a powerful moment that embodied the unity and pride of the day.

Following the establishment of the Kurdistan Mountaineering Federation by the President of the Kurdistan Region, His Excellency (Nechirvan Barzani) in (2006) the president and founder of the Rwanga Foundation continued their mountaineering activities and passion for this sport, which began when he was just 8 years old.
