
Erbil, Kurdistan. September 21st 2015:
Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21. This year the day was devoted to strengthen the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The first Peace Day was observed in September 1982 by the United Nations General Assembly.
A 6 km marathon titled “Race for peace” took place in the capital Erbil on the occasion of the “International Peace Day”. The marathon was jointly organized by Iraqi Kurdistan NGOs Network (IKNN) and Erbil Marathon Association with Rwanga Foundation, World Peace Games and Japan Kurdistan Friendship Association (JKFA).
Competitors both locals and foreigners participated in large numbers for the marathon, towards one common goal “Peace”15 winners from both male and female section were announced at the end of the race.
Rwanga Foundation was one of the coordinators to organize marathon to support and encourage peace globally as well as help people of Kurdistan to spread their message of peace to the world.
It’s worth mentioning that September 21st each year marks the “International Peace Day” in which activities take place globally as a mark of support and respect for this day, Kurdistan, like many other countries aims to highlight the importance of all segments of society to work together to strive for peace through education and public awareness.
