
ERBIL, 13th March 2015 – Today, Grammy award-winning rapper Nelly made history as the first American artist to perform in Kurdistan, Iraq during the Xoli Raperin football tournament held at Franso Hareri Stadium, Erbil.
The landmark occasion was put on by the Rwanga Foundation, a charity devoted to assisting the most vulnerable in the region.
The event saw 15,000 local people in attendance; after the football tournament guests witnessed a Motocross show from international star André Villa, a performance from Arab Idol’s Ammar Koofy, plus the act of the evening Nelly who sang his chart-topping hits “Dilemma”, “Hey Porsche”, plus “Just a dream”.
Rwanga Foundation’s Director or PR & Media, Taban Shoresh said: ‘We are delighted and proud that the city of Erbil hosted this landmark charity concert and would like to thank Nelly for his involvement. The event was here to celebrate the people of this city, promote peace, and a chance to raise money for the millions of people who have been affected by the ongoing conflict’.
Proceeds from the ticket sales will to go help to those impacted during the humanitarian crisis.
Rwanga Foundation has played an active role in helping those most vulnerable during this period; in one of their latest projects they built a community for 24,000 displaced people.
