BAGHDAD (August 14, 2024) –The Rwanga Foundation, in partnership with the International Labor Organization (ILO), is pleased to share the continuation of a groundbreaking project aimed at transforming document management within Iraq’s Social Security departments. This initiative, which began on March 1, 2023, and is scheduled to conclude on December 31, 2024, signifies a major advancement in modernizing government operations through digitalization.

The project, titled “Support for Data Entry Assignments in the Department of Social Security in Iraq / Provision of Data Archiving Services in the Social Security Department at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in Kri,” addresses the inefficiencies of the current paper-based document management system. These inefficiencies have resulted in delays, potential security risks, and the risk of data loss. The project's objective is to tackle these challenges by digitizing (scanning) documents and recording data to ensure enhanced data protection.

In Baghdad, the team has successfully scanned an extensive collection of dossiers dating back as early as 1970, achieving the following:

  • Number of dossiers: 16,772
  • Number of pages: 2,565,759

In the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), where the project phase ran from March 1 to October 31, 2023, the team created an Excel sheet and recorded data from:

  • Number of files: 18,581

Syamand Fareeq, Project Coordinator at the Rwanga Foundation, stated, “This project represents a pivotal step towards transforming government operations through digital innovation. By safeguarding valuable information and enhancing accessibility, we are setting the stage for more efficient public service and improved data management.”

The successful completion of this project highlights the critical role of digitalization in government functions. It provides advanced tools for data collection and analysis and paves the way for a unified data system across all government departments. This integration is anticipated to streamline routine tasks and significantly enhance the quality of public services.
