ERBIL (June 5, 2024) – In celebration of World Environment Day, the Rwanga Foundation organized a campaign to clean Sami Abdulrahman Park in Erbil, focusing on the issue of plastic waste pollution. This initiative aimed to raise public awareness and encourage efforts to improve the environment.

In collaboration with a group of dedicated volunteers, the Rwanga Foundation conducted a one-day cleaning campaign at Sami Abdulrahman Park. The campaign not only highlighted the importance of environmental conservation but also contributed to making the park cleaner for the community.

Govar Kamil, Director of Public Relations and Media at Rwanga Foundation, stated, “We strongly believe that an improved environmental condition enhances the quality of life for the region and cultivates national pride. Today, we have provided necessary items for the volunteers so that they can actively participate in collecting trash.”

The campaign, which ran from 8 am to 4 pm on Wednesday, saw the collection of a significant amount of plastic waste from picnickers, totalling over 63,300 pieces of trash.

World Environment Day, observed annually on June 5, is an initiative by the United Nations to promote environmental protection and raise awareness about environmental issues.
