Social policy Project in KRI

KRI, (January 22, 2023)- five roundtable meetings about ‘Social Policy and Economic Perspective in Iraq’ were conducted by Rwanga Foundation in partnership with ILO (International Labour Organization) and funded by the European Union.

 

The roundtable meetings were held in different governorates in Iraq and KRI (Erbil, Duhok, Sulaimani, Halabja and Kirkuk ), each meeting held a different topic related to ‘Social Policy and Economic Perspective in Iraq’.

After each roundtable meeting, a report was prepared by a consultant in each governorate as an outcome of the meeting with solutions to achieve a specific goal. And a comprehensive report as outcome of the sessions were handed to ILO.

 

The roundtables covered many important topics including:

·       Implementation of retirement and social security law, its inclusion and increasing inclusion area.

·       Performing the rules of retirement and social security law and their influence to promote inclusion through social protection.

·       The Importance of Social Security Law and its Impact on Women's Economic Empowerment

·       Reforming the Social Protection Program in KRI

 

The meetings were attended by different stakeholders, entities, decision makers, related personnel from the government and NGOs. The designated participants have discussed and made suggestions and recommendations to achieve the deliverable goal, During the roundtable meetings, topics were discussed about various sectors and informal workers who are not registered in the social security system yet. Challenges and best ways to be encountered were focused on.

 

 

The project was implemented by Rwanga Foundation in partnership ILO (International Labour Organization) and is funded by the European Union, it aims to bring together different stakeholders, entities, and decision makers to discuss ‘’Implementation of retirement and social security law, its inclusion and increasing inclusion area’’ which is mainly to include all different sectors and informal workers in social security system. Meanwhile, ILO will share and discuss the proposed recommendations and suggestions with certain governmental authorities.
