KRI (December 2021) - The three winner groups of the Rwanga Leadership Program implemented their voluntary projects in the three governorates of Erbil, Sulaimani, and Duhok.

Three voluntary groups were previously selected through an evaluation process that was conducted on November 26, 2021, and received a grant of $1500 to implement their project ideas. The implemented three voluntary projects were:

‘Distributing Emergency Kit Boxes to Public Schools’ in Sulaimani by ‘Care for You’ group

The project consisted of several activities including providing 18 emergency kit boxes including sanitary products for girls in 18 schools. In each box, a guiding leaflet was available about how to use the products scientifically. The second activity was distributing 3000 informative flyers about health and the various accidents happening during school hours to the students aged between 12-18 years old. Another activity was delivering a one-day First-Aid training for 24 teachers to share awareness and raise their knowledge about the common emergency cases and First-Aid.

‘Let Us Protect Our Environment by Increasing the Green Area’ in Erbil by ‘Havra’ group

The project aimed to keep the environment and increase the green areas in Erbil. The team selected an area in Erbil and planted 340 trees in front of 138 houses, one school, and one health center. Another activity was distributing environmental awareness brochures and each tree was named by one of the family members of the houses to create a bond between the residents and the trees.

‘Building Skills through Emotional Intelligence’ in Duhok by ‘Step-Up’ group

This project is a response to the needs identified in the needs assessment report that has been done for the senior undergraduates of the University of Duhok from all Departments. In the assessment report, most of the students showed lacking self-management skills and understanding of self-responsibility. Hence the team delivered a two-day training about skill-building through emotional intelligence to 38 undergraduate students of the host communities, refugees, and IDPs at the University of Duhok. This project helped them to have a better understanding of self-awareness, emotional intelligence, personal goals, pathways and increase their social and emotional skills to prepare them for career life.

Rwanga Leadership Program was a long-term transformative youth program to empower active youths to become change-makers, leaders, and drivers of sustainable development and social change. The program offered a set of offline training and online sessions to 24 youths (13 Females and 11 Males) about ‘Leadership’ and ‘Project Management’  after which the participants designed a voluntary project idea and the projects were evaluated by an evaluation committee to select three groups as winners to receive a grant of $1500 for implementing their projects.
