Rwanga Foundation Participated in the National Conversation on Education

Duhok, KRI (September 20th, 2021) – The CED of Rwanga Foundation participated in the ‘National Conversation on K-19 Education’ hosted by the American University of Kurdistan which is a 3-year educational reform in the KRI.

 

The aim of the “Conversation” is for identifying strategies for future development of the educational sector in the KRI on the level of the Ministry of Education & the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. As well as to reform the currently existing educational system in the Kurdistan Region into an ideal form.

The event was initiated by two keynote speeches from the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and President Nechirvan Barzani. Followed by three panel discussions with the participation of Alan Hama Saeed, KRG Minister of Education, Dr. Aram Mohammad Qadir, KRG Minister of Higher Education, alongside presentations by NGO representatives (including the Abdulsalam Medeni, the CED of Rwanga Foundation).

 

“Education is the core of every developed society, a proper education system guarantees the present and future of our generations. The educational system in the Kurdistan Region, from kindergarten to primary, high school and higher education, needs a radical review.” said H.E. President Nechirvan Barzani in his speech.

“We, as the Kurdistan Regional Government, have set the goal to, through education and training, provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary for Kurdistan’s labor market and stability,” said H.E. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

 

The first panel discussion was conducted by the participation of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministers of Education and Higher Education, during their conversation, the current university admissions system was discussed.

Later on, Bahar Ali, Director of EMMA Organization for Human Development, Foll Rory Robertshaw, Chief of Education at UNICEF, and Mercy Zindimu from Duhok’s British International School presented “UNICEF’s Research and Data Collection,” “Gender Parity in Education within Kurdistan” and “Working with Children with Learning Challenges.”

The last panel discussion was conducted with the participation of AbdulSalam Medeni, CED of Rwanga Foundation. Abdulqader Kakasur, UNICEF, Sherwan Mohammed Mahdi, GIZ to talk about the NGOs activities in the educational sector. 

During the panel,  AbdulSalam Medeni, CED of Rwanga Foundation said "Public, private and civil society sectors should plan and implement together in order to achieve the best results and be able to improve the current educational system". 


This conference was the first step of the National Conversation, through which the Task-force held their first discussion to begin the process of identifying action items for future development to suggest solutions for improving the overall education in the KRI.
