Rwanga Foundation Cleans 516 Water Reservoirs

 KURDISTAN (April 2020) – Rwanga Foundation funded by GIZ implemented a project for Cleaning and maintenance of 516 water reservoirs around Kurdistan.


The project was carried out for two main goals: the first was cleaning 516 drinking water reservoirs throughout the Kurdistan Region, the second aim was to provide job opportunities for more than 955 people. Rwanga Foundation aims to involve as many women and girls as possible in any project and always considers gender balance and gender sensitive perspectives. However, considering the nature of the project and the social culture, participation of women and girls in the project was 20%, and around 10% people with disabilities.

The cleaning process was divided into two phases in which during the first phase the four zones of Soran, Rwandiz, Choman and Mergasor were targeted, while the second phase was focusing on Shaqlawa, Makhmour, and Koya districts. The services included cleaning and maintenance of 516 iron and concrete reservoirs with different sizes from (3*4*2) to(30*50*3) meter, fixing reservoir doors, welding of broken doors, painting external wall of reservoirs, clarifires, intakes,

 

The project was funded by the GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and implemented by Rwanga Foundation for a duration of six months. More than 955 workers working on the project benefited directly and more than 840,000 residents of the seven districts benefited indirectly from the project.
